You booked a Day Trip— now what?
Some vacations give you a sunburn. My vacations burn down your vanilla messaging and write copy that puts you on the right maps. But you know that. That’s why you just booked The Day Trip. Or The Outing (half-day) or The Weekender (2 days in a row).
Hopefully, you’re buzzing with excitement. I know I am. My claws on your copy? F*ck yes. But naturally you might have some questions, so I’m excited to go through this process with you right now.
How It Begins
Contract. Invoice. Pick a day. You’re probably already beyond these logistics, but just in case you’re not— that’s the actual start.
Then, I send over my Copy Clarity Questionnaire. This is your light a candle, put on the EDM beats, and fuel up with chocolate moment because I need you to ramble hard on this document. Give me all of the thoughts in your brain surrounding your value proposition, ideal client, differentiation, and brand voice (to name a few).
More information is always better than less. Feel free to voice-to-text that sh*t if you need to speak things into existence. I just ask you send the transcript, not the video or audio file because my brain needs the written words.
Kicking Off Your Day
Your day is here! I’m probably taking a straight shot of espresso and having my standard Greek yogurt bowl before we hop in the Zoom room. For The Outing and The Day Trip, we have our call as the first 20-30 minutes of your day to go over your questionnaire and get aligned on writing priorities. For the Weekender, you get a full 60-minute Messaging Intensive the day before your trip.
And before you ask, yes, you can upgrade to a full 60-minute Messaging Intensive if you booked The Outing or The Day Trip. Just ask. This is ideal if you notice you’re on the struggle bus when you’re filling out your questionnaire OR you want me to craft some elements of your base messaging (mission statement, bio, founder story, differentiation, elevator pitch, one liner, etc.) on top of the sales and web copy we’re doing on your VIP Day. This is a $400 add-on.
We Start Writing
After that call, we’re off. It’s you and me in a writing cave vortex for 4 hours. We’re not on Zoom during these 4 hours. Too much screen time for you and I don’t like being watched. It makes things weird. When we get off the kickoff call, I ask that you keep your phone near because we communicate through texts and voice notes throughout the day. Feel free to do admin tasks, catch up on your fav show, or bake cinnamon rolls (mail one please). I don’t need your undivided attention during the day.
I’m usually pretty quiet for the first 45-ish minutes - 1 hour as I’m creating my mental writing plan, slaying the blank Google doc, and writing your first page of copy. One thing clients mention is how hour 1 is not the same as hour 4. We build momentum, so by the end of the day, you start swimming in copy and wondering if I’m actively cloning myself in my studio apartment.
Editing
I might have questions throughout the day, and I’ll text and voice note those to you if they come up. But your real moment to hop in is when I sent you copy. I send you copy as it’s ready. So after hour 1, when you get that Home Page or Sales Page it’s time to hop in the document, read it, comment edits, and ping me when you’re done with that.
While you’re doing that, I’m onto the next page. There are no breaks in this day. We just go. So keep some fruit near, you’re gonna need it. We keep this rhythm of passing pages of copy back and forth for the next 4 hours, then you have a completed site at the end of it. Ready to hand to your designer. Or my designer, if we’re designing your site in house.
If the editing speed stresses you out. Aka, you’re someone who needs more time to read through things, process, and make those edits— I so got you. Add on a ‘Sleep On It’ hour and you’ll get an overnight to read over it again (and again) to comment edits. Then the next day, we’ll have an hour on the calendar for me to go in and make those edits for you. The next-day hour can not be used for writing more copy, only editing existing copy. This is a $400 add-on.
How to Be a Great Editor
I know you want me to wrap up the day and think to myself, wow, that was a great client. So I’m going to tell you exactly what makes me think that. Usually great clients illuminate themselves in the editing process.
Be Quick
When I text you a question or send over some copy to review, do you best to get back to me quickly. If you’re ordering a latte or picking up the kids, no worries, but just communicate with me. Sometimes I think silence means you hate it. Yes, I know that’s a me problem, but I wanna try and avoid that. More importantly, if you DO hate it (which is fine) I wanna course correct quickly.
Be Specific
Do you best to give me specific revisions like ‘this sentence/word feels off to me’ or ‘I want this section to be more direct and less empathetic.’ I understand articulating why something is off can be tricky, but do your best, because the more specific you are— the better I can write within your vision. I know, I know, but you just want it punchierrrrr.
Be Mindful of ChatGPT
I understand the temptation to run my stuff through ChatGPT and give it a prompt like ‘I like this, but can you make it hit harder.’ And you have every right to do that. But I’d much rather you refer to ‘Be Specific’ and use your human voice to tell me what’s off instead of giving me a version that feels closer, then having me reconcile that robot version with the first version I sent you.
*if you do this, it’s okay. I know it’s a great tool. I won’t be mad, I promise. It just really slows me down to work this way and might result in you getting less copy in your Day Trip. If you’re gonna do this, try to put the ChatGPT line/section that you like as a comment on the document for where you want me to refer to it.
Be On The Document
I feel like a meditation teacher. Stay with me. Right here. But do your best in our day to put your commented revisions right where you want them. On the document, highlighting the section that needs to be changed. This is much easier for me than having an email with all of your thoughts or getting a long voice note about what you want changed.
Quick Note
In the end, it’s your day. If you want to hop on Zoom and make revisions together for each page, we can totally do that. This is the section for the time optimizer who wants me to have superhuman output on their day. If that’s not you, we’ll customize the process to your brain. I don’t mind at all.
Wrapping Up The Day
I know I talk a lot about us writing your entire site. And 98% of the time, we crush it and your website is done done. But that 2%? It’d be misleading for me to not reiterate that this is a time-based offer, not deliverable-based offer. My pace is (not)arguably the best in the world, but lots of revisions can slow us down and make it that we don’t finish things.
But I’m pretty confident you booked The Day Trip because you’re a quick mover who’s in love with the idea of getting bangin’ copy right now, so you stop leaving money on the table with vanilla words. You eat slow timelines for breakfast and you’re training your wrists right now, so you crush this day with me.
So our wrap up will look like a voice note celebration and you saying, Lucy, I don’t know how you did all of this in 4 hours.
Sometimes It’s Too Good to Stop
When we finish a ton in 4 hours, it’s so natural to realize you’re now allergic to slow services and want me to tackle a sales page, your email sequence, a LinkedIn bio, or your quiz.
We can keep going. By boosting your day with an extra 2 hours.
Most of the time I book The Day Trip with a little cushion, so after I get a little (dance) break, we can do your extra 2 hours on the same day. But you have one week to request an extra 2 hours, so we can book a Half-Day a couple days after your Day Trip too. This is a $1900 add-on.
*If you book The Outing, you do not get access to this specific add on, BUT you can upgrade to the full Day Trip by paying the difference if I have availability after your half day. (The difference is $2000)
To Close Things Out
The deliverable you get is a folder with all of your web copy, sorted into individual pages documents. Each page is laid out with cues for your designer to follow (where to put the header, marking sections, etc.). When you get this, you’ll want to make a copy of everything in case something happens on my end or if you want to make some quick revisions.
I’m so excited to have you for a whole day (or half day or 2 days). This is my signature offer because my output truly can’t be matched. I understand things quickly, write even faster, and blow minds. And I’m so excited that you see the value of collapsing timelines and getting other people’s months done in hours.
